The Holidays Are All About The Children

We have a banner in the back of the office, about six feet tall and four feet wide that says, “We are here to do good things for good people”. We try to apply that not only in our IT staffing efforts, but in our lives outside of Whitridge. The holidays are the time of year when this really strikes a chord, especially when there are so many things challenging people locally and throughout the world.

That is what motivates the team here at Whitridge to step up and do something to make a difference in the Boston area. We have an ongoing relationship with The Home for Little Wanderers and we value any chance we get to give back to their organization that does so much for so many. One of the highlights of our year, is the Big Wishes Gift Drive – in which we “adopt” children to become their own, personal Santa for Christmas.

We sift through a long list of wishes to find the children that we can make the biggest impact upon, when you see a five-year-old asking for a comforter for their bed, you know there’s a real need. Then, Whitridge staff members select their child and set out to fulfill their holiday wishes.

It sounds simple enough but with busy schedules and everything happening around the holidays it, at times, can be a challenge to find the toy or clothing or comforter they have asked for. The requests cover a wide range from soccer balls and footballs to Power Rangers, Barbie Dolls, dinosaurs, and hockey pads. When some of our “less toy savvy” staff need help, we rally around each other to help fulfill a little one’s dream.

The astounding thing about this is the excitement and joy that it brings to our team, everyone is so proud of their gifts and they make sure they show them off to all when they pick it up or it comes through the ever-reliable Amazon delivery.

This year, Team Whitridge went far beyond expectations – we’re proud to report that, after our staff “adopted” an initial list of 20 children, our generous owner and CEO helped us to provide holiday gifts for a total of 29 children in need in the Dorchester, Roslindale, and Mattapan area. The number of toys and personal items, as you will see in the photos, was astounding and our friends at the Home for Little Wanderers couldn’t have been more gracious and appreciative.

So, when your contemplating whether you have your shopping completed, maybe stop for a moment and see if you might want to pick up a new toy, comforter, or soccer ball for someone in need, the gift you receive will far outweigh the gift you give.

From the Whitridge team to yours, have a wonderful holiday one and all!
