Meet Your Whitridge IT Recruiter

NAME: Nick Butcher
TITLE: IT Staffing Specialist
YEARS W/ WHITRIDGE: 3 ½

Over the coming months, we want to introduce you to members of the Whitridge Associates team. In IT recruiting, it really is your employees that make you successful and our team is the perfect example of that. With that said, meet Nick. We asked several questions about him personally and how he works to help our IT consultants.

Q:     What is your background both educationally and professionally? And how did that lead you to IT recruiting?

Nick:     I graduated with a Communication degree from the University of New Hampshire in 2011. I then moved back to Maine where I grew up and worked in hospitality for a collection of hotels as a Front Desk Manager as well as a Driver for the private driving service that the property had.

I think the collaboration the job entailed and meeting new people was a great experience. I was constantly helping coworkers and guests with various needs, and I’m talking about very needy guests. Working there wasn’t an easy task, I was always on the move and making sure that people were always happy, as the customer comes first. I enjoyed the driving aspect because it allowed me to strike up conversations with people and learn more about them, what they did for work, was there anything we could do to make their stay better, etc. which correlates to what I do now.

Ultimately, what made me choose the technology staffing industry were the conversations that I had with my college roommate who was already in technology recruiting. He gave me some solid insight, but also let me know how challenging the culture can be at a larger company. I thought it sounded like something I didn’t want to do unless I could find a smaller, tight knit company like Whitridge, where I would be happy.

Q:     What is the best thing about IT recruiting and what do you think are the biggest challenges?

Nick:     I would say the best things about IT recruiting are the satisfaction you feel when helping an individual obtain a new role; it is a gratifying experience, and the money with how quickly it can be made if you really push yourself to do well.

I would have to say that the challenge is simply finding quality technology talent. You know it is out there somewhere, but it is very hard to come by. That is what makes this job a hard thing to do, but very rewarding. You really have to have the passion and drive to want to do well; otherwise I would not recommend getting into this profession.

Q:     When you’re not at work what is your favorite thing to do?

Nick:     I enjoy hanging out with my fiancé and friends. Most of the friends I grew up with in Maine migrated to Boston and we are all still very close. I also enjoy spending time with our very chill Pug with the biggest under bite you’ve ever seen, Lola.

Q:     Tell us one interesting (or odd – no judgement here) fact about yourself?

Nick:    I love luxury cars. I read about them, I dream about them, I’ve been obsessed with them since I was a little kid; specifically, Mercedes, which makes me want to work hard to buy one of my many dream cars, an S 65 AMG Mercedes-Benz…someday. I can’t wait to say “someday came” when I have one sitting in my driveway.

Q:     What do you love about Whitridge?

Nick:     I would have to say the team that I work with on a daily basis. We all enjoy working together, helping one another when we need assistance and I say that from the top-down -- from our Recruiting Manager and COO welcoming us into their offices at all times of the day when we aren’t exactly sure how to cope with a difficult situation to my fellow teammates.

I like the fact that we have a management and recruiting team that truly does care about each other; you aren’t just a number at Whitridge, it really is more of a family.
