The Best City for Starting a Wicked Fast-Growing Company

Wicked fast. In recent years, Boston has emerged as a startup hub to rival both New York City and Silicon Valley. The 10 fastest-growing private companies based in Bean Town pulled in more than $308 million in collective revenue in 2015, according to the 2016 Inc. 5000.

10. Raizlabs The mobile app developer makes the 2016 Inc. 5000 at No. 1,535. It grew revenue by more than 247% between 2012 and 2015, when its sales grew to $8.2 million. Gregory Raiz is the founder and chief executive at the eponymous Raizlabs.

9. SevOne This software management firm brought in $89.3 million in 2015 sales, up more than 248% since 2012. SevOne is headed by CEO Jack Sweeney and ranks No. 1,531 on the 2016 Inc. 5000.

8. Buildium The cloud management software maker landed on the Inc. 5000 at No. 1,444, having grown its sales by more than 265% since 2012. Led by co-founder and chief executive Michael Monteiro, Buildium generated $19.5 million in 2015.

7. WordStream Chief executive Ralph Folz (pictured, front left) has helped grow the online marketing software maker's sales by more than 577% since 2012, landing the company on the Inc. 5000 at No. 682. WordStream brought in nearly $23 million in 2015 revenue.

6. Valore By letting customers rent or buy textbooks on the cheap, Valore has grown its three-year revenue by more than 619% since 2012--reeling in $86 million in sales last year alone. CEO Geoffrey Willison helped the company land at No. 625 on the 2016 Inc. 5000.

5. Turbonomic The company management software maker hit the ​Inc. 5000 for the second time in 2016 at No. 403. VMTurbo (now called Turbonomic), which is headed up by CEO Ben Nye, grew revenue by more than 953% between 2012 and 2015, when it saw $45 million in sales.

4. Pixability The video ad firm grew its revenue by more than 2,637% between 2012 and 2015, and brought in $9.8 million last year. Pixability, which is led by founder and CEO Bettina Hein, ranks No. 314 on the 2016 Inc. 5000.

3. Project Repat  Project Repat sells quilts made from T-shirts like this one pictured here with customers. The business grew its sales by more than 2,637% between 2012 and 2015. Last year, it saw nearly $4 million in revenue, ranking it No. 132 on the Inc. 5000.

2. Haystack ID The digital forensics and investigation data provider ranks No. 38 on the Inc. 5000, with three-year sales growth over 5,962% and $6.5 million in 2015 revenue. Kevin Glass (pictured), a litigation support specialist, is Haystack ID's president and CEO.

1. Globalization Partners Co-founder and CEO Nicole Sahin (pictured, front, second from right) helped grow the international staffing firm by 16,197% over three years, reaping $17.8 million in 2015. It ranks No. 6 on the 2016 Inc. 5000.
