The 29 Best Jobs For Work-Life Balance
By: Jeff Kauflin

Attention to work-life balance continues to build in the U.S., so much so that some might consider it a movement. Arianna Huffington’s recent career switch is a clear example. In 2007 the founder and then-CEO of The Huffington Post was so sleep-deprived that, while checking email in her LA office, she collapsed and broke her cheekbone. Several years later she wrote Thrive, a book encouraging people to actively manage their health and well-being. She gave up her CEO role two months ago to start a consultancy that continues her book’s mission. So she’s now devoting her life to work-life balance.

Today careers website Glassdoor released its list of the 29 best jobs for work-life balance. Glassdoor is best known for its crowd-sourced company reviews, and for this list, it grouped those reviews by job title. To be included, a role needed to have at least 75 work-life balance ratings from 75 or more companies. Glassdoor only included ratings submitted over the past nine months. Full methodology details are available here.

Work-life balance has different meanings for different people. To some it means a 40-hour work week, while others may prefer longer hours with the flexibility to set their own schedule.

Corporate recruiter claimed the top spot for work-life balance. It just so happens that in my past career, I led recruiting at a marketing consulting firm. I enjoyed positive work-life balance, thanks to both the nature of the role and the firm’s culture. When interviewing candidates, I set the schedule based on my own and my colleagues’ availability. I could work from home on days when we didn’t have in-person interviews, although I preferred to be in the office.
